Subject: [KLF-TALK:676] Epidemic ...
i'm totally surprised that NO ONE has RAVED about this music disk
release ... or even mentioned it for that matter!!! JEEZ this thing is
the most QUALITY release i've ever heard (not that i'm willingly putting
down EGG2 ... but this thing KICKS-ASS!!!).
if people haven't heard of this music disk then here's the scoop
.. it's a joint release of from iCE/Reneissance that includes music from
members of Reneissance, Future Crew and KLF ... and several others that
i've forgotten so i can't mention. There's like 15-20 tracks in it
(didn't count cuz i was too awe struck by the music!!! :)
don't ask me what ftpsite i got this from cuz i didn't ... i got
it off a local bbs board and i just happened to take the chance to DL it
cuz it mentioned Future Crew and KLF members (or should i say KFMF).
(btw the members are Basehead and Necros ... FC's are purple motion and
skaven ... but you all know that :)
btw, can anyone tell me some ftpsites where i could get some
personal releases from Basehead and Necros that WEREN'T released through KLF?
also for FC member music and for a guy named Erik Stridell of Cascada?
And also some Reneissance stuff. thanx in advance ...
peace out ...

Amen to that! The only new tracker player I want to see is something that
runs over the ones out today, Inertia Player and CapaMOD are the only
players on my HDD, and I use ST3.2 and FT2 for composing.
I put a sample of my first song - Heavy Metal on Hornet, the whole song
will be released this month :)
I really like it :)

Well, as for me I was far more impressed by EGG2 as a project than
epidemic, though it woulda been nice if the artist distribution in EGG was a
little more even. I really like Maelcum tracks I do I do, but what about
the rest of you KFMFers?

I was impressed by the array of artists they got, but it seems as if some
put in tracks they had left over on their hard drives for a while, not at
all the best I've heard from them. But then again I'm not a real fan of
soft new-agish stringy things, and that's what a lot of them were.

If you read DemoNews, Necros pointed to
ftp://ftp.uwp.edu/pub/msdos/demos/music/artists/necros
I dunno 'bout basehead, though I 'magine he can answer for himself :)

That'd be Zodiak. He's been around for a while. He just won the Party 94
multichannel competion. Check out his noisy guitar ft2 composition at
ftp://hornet.eng.ufl.edu/demos/music/songs/tp94mult/reflectr.zip or
something like that. I also have Shelter, by him, which I ripped out of
Holistic.

yes i do like maelcum's stuff but i also have to agree that it was lop-sided
in the tracks department

well i guess i've mellowed out in my old age :) ... but i just find
rave/techno too monotonous(sp?) ... same rhythm over and over again is
not what i call music ... or do i call alot of noise and static music.
don't find too much talent in that ... but before i start a flame war
(which i don't intend to be doing) i'll just say i know other people like
it and it's just not my cup of tea and i'll just not listen to it myself
but all you others are welcome to it.

I didn't this would've been the place to talk about "other" groups
compilations, but since there are some KLF members' tunes in Epidemic
it's probably ok.

(I guess it somewhere on hornet too.)
Does anyone know how to "extract" particular tracks from the EPIDEMIC.00X
files?
I've only got one critiscm (and I think this applies for EGG2 too),
there's no way to play all the tracks in sequence. Each track repeats
until you manually click/press to move to the next. It'd be really cool to
set the player going and then just sit back and enjoy...

I use MINUET for News, and E-mail, and usually Windows for FTP & IRC & WWW
:) I plan on getting OS/2 WARP when I upgrade to a Pentium...
Getting back on topic now, anyone have any info on what Kosmic has planned
for 1995? The X-MAS package and EGG 2 sure left them really strong coming
out of 1994 and into 1995, I hope we see more great stuff this year :)

That's probably true but tracker technology will change as hardware changes.
And anyway, what we also need is quality players that support different
formats, like M4W would be cool if it supported .XM. How soon, eh, Jensi

I don't agree with the creation of a fu..ing new format(i've got lots 'o'
players: one for DMF, one for MTM+MOD+S3M,...)!! We don't need another format!
We DO need an universal player and something like that in a tracker. I think the
formats are more than enough. Now let's work in a nice GUI(something liks FT2).

Can't remember the adress right now, but you can get the nfo file on the
news at ftp.eng.ufl.edu in /demos/news - it's called howtoXX.txt where XX
are numbers or somehting...

two new, EXCELLENT releases:
k-wsands.zip "White Sands" s3m by Mental Floss (andewm). really good
ambient/trance song with jungle influences
k-bugs.zip "Bugs In My Head" s3m by Necros. Nine Inch Nails type
industrial noise track. pretty damn amazing, this pretty much proves that
trent reznor sucks, because if necros can do this in a tracker he could
blow the sh*t out of mr reznor in a studio :)
on ftp.wit.com /klf/songs/95/

Yes. I ripped all of them (all S3Ms, but some seem to have been MOD and
converted to S3M for use in Epidemic) using PowerRipper. It's on Hornet,
filename something like p-rip.zip or similar.
Necros left quite a bit uncleaned in his song... one of them.

That annoys me (a bit) too. When I got that music-disk, I was SO TIRED
that I layed in bed and didn't feel like getting up at all. Epidemic
was REAL good, but I always had to get up after 15 minutes or so when the
current song had looped 5 times to go on to the next one. That's one of
the reasons why I ripped the songs. Now I can use DMPC and CapaMOD to
play them. :)

i second that criticism ... also epidemic didn't have a list of the song
titles so you know what you are selecting when ya hit from 1-9 and q-o.

There's no special compression, they're just concatenated files, so any
decent ripper should yank 'em out for you. Go to /music/programs/rippers,
or somthing like that in the hornet archives and download s3mrip or powerrip
or whatever and it'll pull them all out for you, nice and neat.

i'll tell you what we 'need'.. [or what i would like to see] . . a music-
editing program [OTHER than a damn tracker] that supports the S3M [or other
multichannel formats], & uses a piano-roll style interface. the -only-
program i've come across that was written this way is modedit 3.01.. and i
think the concept for music-writing is unmatched. I never have and probably
never will ever get used to the scrolling number shit & the tracker keyboard..
modedit 3 is decent, but very limiting. . . it only supports 4 channel mods,
& doesn't go above the 640k zone in terms of memory. i can only hope that
one of these days someone will see the light of MIDI & create a good stable
program w/ piano roll .

i've tried fast-tracker two, and there's just no possible way i'd use a mouse
like that .. it's just a lot faster to use keyboard shortcuts [if there even
are any in ft2.] (yes, there are, i remember now) . . .
